Subject: response to "mr. critics"

I'll start by saying that I couldn't disagree more strongly with mr. critics. We all have differing opinions, and ours are directly opposed. Perhaps mr. critics has never had the pleasure of gazing upon the dark, sultry beauty of Monica Martin or Bonnie Priest, the stunning Valentina Chepiga. Could a girl be cuter than Annie Rivieccio and Tazzie Colomb? Cory Everson, who is 45 if a day, is still prettier and sexier than most girls half her age. Aren't women supposed to have curves? And what is curvier than well developed muscle? If mr. critics doesn't like the look of a female bodybuilder that's fine, after all he is entitled to his opinion, but, "look like men"... that's simply not true, period. People, especially men who share the negative view of female bodybuilders share insecurity as well. They don't train and therefore don't understand the gym life. I've been training like an animal for over 20 years, powerlifter, and I know from my own experience that those who don't train don't understand those of us who do. There is nothing more beautiful than a well-developed, muscular woman.  Thanks for letting me vent; you have a great site, I love what you're doing... keep up the great work!

Subject: some critics

 hello  there,

excuse me, but for me the most of you look like men, not because of the  muscles, but because auf your faces, they often look like men faces who have made  a sex change, or look like men faces without beards. if this is a move to  unslave yourself from the men this is the false way.  you fight against them by  becomming like them? if you are something special, why is your dream to be  like men? i dont understand this....

"Mr. Critics"

Your question is a legitimate one, often posed by others...

Thank you for pointing out that it's not the muscles which look "male." That point is so fundamental to our argument that if you understand it, you're well ahead of most of the world!

And you're absolutely correct about the masculinizing effects of what we call the "needle-nasties."  We're turned off by this too. As you're probably aware, these extremes come from the pressure result of bodybuilding COMPETITION requirements, which is one reasons you'll find no contest photos or coverage on our site. If you look at our GALLERY page, you'll see a variety of women, some natural, some not. But even the largest of these women (like Lesa Lewis) possess a lovely aesthetic, much of which is genetic.

By the same token, we ALL personally know ordinary, non-muscular women who are less than feminine or attractive, who have "male" faces, deeper voices (why is it "sexy" if Lauren Bacall's voice is deep, but "gender-bender" if a female bodybuilder's is?) or even a little bit of whiskers. Is it their fault? Do we condemn them? Also, you personally know many men who are less than "masculine," and have very little muscle...what do you say to THEM?

Unfortunately, it's female MUSCLE that most people can't deal with, so they reject ALL of it, using the few "needle-nasty" examples as their argument.

We hope you'll take a closer, open-minded look at our site, especially the GALLERY and the BREAKOUT articles to gain a new perspective. We all look forward to the day when no woman is afraid to explore her physical potential - minus the drugs.

Subject: thanks for brightening my day

Just wanted to drop you a note to say that your website is an inspiration. While I do find some of the pics a little extreme I do appreciate the spirit that you are communicating. And no one can deny that the women are images of singular strength and beauty.  I am an anorexic who made the decision to buck up and start taking care of herself after seeing the gorgeous physiques of women like Rachel McLish and former anorexic fitness competitor Linda Cusmano. So I have been hitting the gym to lift and pushing my scrawny little bony ass with squats as well as eating my meat (I was a vegan aerobics queen for the 8 mo's of my downward spiral, I ended up bony, pale, horrendously underweight, and worst of all WEAK looking with atrophied muscles) It was nice to see a site that reminds me of why I am lifting.

Any tips on gaining muscle or advice on nutrition would also be quite welcome esp. training. I would love to know how long it took those women to look even half that muscular. I am 5'6 and 98-100 lbs so I have a long ways to go. I do not want to look "toned" I want visible muscles. Just not sure how this is accomplished in females without doing anything illegal;-) Since you folks are the experts...thought you could share some ideas
Thank you

Kristen

Kristen-

Thanks for your kind note... and congratulations on your initiative!

Obviously genetics play a key role for most of these women (and drugs are involved for some of the more outrageous physiques, which shouldn't be of any interest to you). But you'd be amazed at what you can do with what you have!

You probably know already what you need to do to gain muscle tissue... eat often (the right things, of course!) and train heavy. Most women train as though they really believe they're supposed to remain weak!

There are a zillion sites where you can get good training/ nutritional info... as a starting point, go to the RESOURCE page on this site:
www.yourlocalpersonaltrainer.com

You'll also find some great inspiration in Linda and Renita, both natural bodybuilders featured on this site.

Good Luck!
